Using Spatial Econometrics to Measure Ozone Pollution Externalities
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper summarizes my previous work in Lin (2010), in which I use spatial econometrics to analyze air pollution externalities. In Lin (2010), state-by-state source-receptor transfer coefficients that can be used as a basis for a locationdifferentiated permit system are estimated. Results affirm the importance of regional transport in determining local ozone air quality, although owing to non-monotonicities in ozone production the externality is not always negative. Because the origin of emissions matters, results also reject a non-spatially differentiated NOx cap and trade program as an appropriate mechanism for reducing ozone smog.

متن کاملMeasuring and Interpreting Urban Externalities in Real-Estate Data: A Spatio-Temporal Difference-in-Differences (STDID) Estimator
It is now almost impossible to deal with spatial data without considering some explicit specification that captures possible spatial effects. One valuable feature of spatial econometrics models is their decomposition of marginal effects into spatial spillover effect and spatial externalities. Progress in interpreting spatial econometrics models has now been extended to the spatial-panel case. H...
متن کاملDoes Supporting Passenger Railways Reduce Road Traffic Externalities?
Many governments subsidize regional rail service as an alternative to road traffic. This paper assesses whether increases in service frequency reduce road traffic externalities. We exploit differences in service frequency growth by procurement mode following a railway reform in Germany to address endogeneity of service growth. Increases in service frequency reduce the number of severe road traf...

Background and Objective: Ground level ozone (O3) is one of most dangerous pollutants for human health in urban areas. The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting the formation of ozone and modeling the spatial and temporal variations of ozone concentration in Tehran metropolitan area. Materials and Methods: The data used in this research included meteorological data and pollut...
متن کاملUrban ecosystem services: tree diversity and stability of tropospheric ozone removal.
Urban forests provide important ecosystem services, such as urban air quality improvement by removing pollutants. While robust evidence exists that plant physiology, abundance, and distribution within cities are basic parameters affecting the magnitude and efficiency of air pollution removal, little is known about effects of plant diversity on the stability of this ecosystem service. Here, by m...
